Gratitude and Soup

How’s your week going? I’ve been trying to focus on gratitude recently and shutting out the news, thinking about breathing and humming and doing simple movements, stretching and tapping exercises that look weird but are strangely energizing and detoxifying. Let me know if you’d like recommendations.

I’m actually grateful for a lot; James Baldwin and bell hooks, Nina Simone and David Bowie and gardening and children who are silly and cooking and the beach and changing autumn leaves and small joys. Robert Reich and Rebecca Solnit and Jon Lovitt, Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie and Ella Jenkins who just passed at 100 and Noam Chomsky who - at 95 - has just lost his power of speech and writing but leaves us with so much to think about. And Mrs. Terwilliger (pictured above), a naturalist who I was lucky enough to go on hikes with as a kid in the Bay Area.

I’m grateful for my ancestors and my heroes. I’m grateful for members of this community who are legit superstars and artists and helpers and the infrastructure of mutual support in West Philly that was energized way before I got here.

It’s getting cold - finally - so I’m keeping it souper simple this week with soup.

How about some hearty meatball soup with white beans and greens? It’ll be great with a sprinkle of melted parmesan and some crusty bread on the side. I think I’ll make some garlic butter and pesto spread for the bread. Meatballs will be turkey or some kind of plant-based meat alt. ORDER HERE by the end of Sunday (Nov 17) for pickup/delivery Monday Nov 18.

Be sure to put in your Thanksgiving order here by Friday Nov 21.

And don’t forget to order wellness products here.

Let’s be a sanctuary for one another, and do what we can to keep each other safe and healthy and loved.

In solidarity,

Casey
